This morning at 05.30 we arrived in good order at Staten Island.
We have sailed 430 miles since we left Puerto Deseado in about 68 hours.
It was a wonderfull crossing with light and favourable winds.
A lot of sunshine. When we arrived Statenisland was enveloped by misty clouds and looked very rough. ( See photo’s).
At last it became cold. We were wondering when this would happen.
Now we can see our breath and have cold hands.
We saw snow on the mountains here. I hope you can see it on the photo’s.
It was a very narrow entrance into this mountain surrounded caleta.
The advantage is it is a bulletproof anchorage. We are protected on all sides of the winds.
We anchored in 10 feet water with 40 meter chain and I attached two mooring lines to trees on the shore. (see Photo).
Rowing around with the dinghy we discovered a little stream with sweet water so tomorrow we will do some washing and well needed bathing in icecold (brrrr) water.
In the pilot this anchorage is described as the best anchorage of the whole island.
We read that you need a permit to visit this island. Now we dreamed up a story about a leaking diesel tank and the need for reparations in case the argentinian navy will bother us.
There is a naval base in the next inlet: Puerto Parry.
Maybe we are going to pay them a visit.
